1886

  • Manilla is officially founded after deciding the town's name in a tug of war match.
  • Manilla's train depot and roundhouse are finished.

1887

  • Manilla becomes an incorporated community and establishes local government.
  • Manilla's first physician, Dr. J. Gardner, later known as the "father of the city", arrives to town.

1889

  • Manilla's first public school is built.

1894

  • Manilla's first city hall is built.

1897

  • The Klondike Hotel is built.

1899

  • The Manilla Times, Manilla's longest, current running newspaper is founded.

1943

  • Charley Schram Sr. commissions the Veterans Memorial Bandshell, planning to include the names of Manilla residents called to serve in WWII on the bandshell's arch.

1967

  • The last passenger train between Omaha and Chicago passes through Manilla.

1986

  • Manilla holds its 100-year centennial, the largest celebration in city history to date.

1994

  • Manilla is nominated for the first time as the route host for RAGBRAI.

2001

  • Manilla is nominated a second time as the route host for RAGBRAI.

2014

  • Crawford County's Freedom Rock arrives in Manilla.
