1889
The first public school was built in Manilla. School districts from one mile north and one mile south of Manilla were combined to form The Manilla Independent School District. The school building contained 4 classrooms, with 2 classes in each room.
1915
The Manilla School District voted overwhelmingly to bond the district for $45,000 and build a new brick school. The Catholic Church bought part of the wooden structure for a grade school. George Holdsworth Sr. bought and dimedantled the rest.
1935
A $25,000 W.P.A. funded playground project north of the school was started. All employed were relief workers with common laborers - they received $40 per month and the foreman received $65 per month. A new gym and auditorium were built and equipped, funded by local bonds amounting $10,000, and a federal grant of $9,000.
1956
The Manilla Independent School District was reorganized and became the Manilla Community School.
1959
A new elementary wing was built. All country schools in the county were closed.
1973
A bond of $220,000 was awarded to build a new school gymnasium.
1984
The Manilla's school and the Irwin-Kirkman school began a co-op program with athletic activities. IKM baseball was the first athletic program to be incorporated.
1987
All sports were incorporated into the IKM program, their uniforms were green, gold and white and the mascots were the Hawks and Hawkettes.
1992
The Manilla and Irwin-Kirkman school boards signed an official consolidation agreement to combine the two school systems and formed the Irwin-Kirkman-Manilla, or IKM, school district.
2011
IKM school district consolidates with Manning schools. Name changed to IKM-Manning school district.
